The CORE-Project

Background

Although the youth unemployment rate in Europe decreased in the last decade, it is still very high in some parts, especially in countries of the Balkan region where many young adults aged 16 to 24 are neither in employment nor in education or training (NEETs). It is essential for these people to find a way (back) into education and/or employment quickly to prevent negative long-term consequences. This can be supported by gaining awareness of their own competences, which often were acquired outside of the educational system, and recognizing these competences.

Ideas & Outcomes

The main barrier for young adults´ access to professional education counselling in countries of the Balkan region (Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia) is the lack of counselling structures and existing offers.
Therefore, the CORE project also aims to prepare counsellors for working with this target group and support them by developing a practical counselling toolkit. The toolkit compiles different tools for competence assessment and training methods which are suitable for NEETs and support the (re-)integration to education or employment.
A key component of the toolkit is the ProfilPASS for young people, which will be adapted to the specific needs of these disadvantaged young adults during the project.

In addition to the CORE-toolkit a curriculum and manual will be developed which form the foundation for a specific training of counsellors. Overall, 15 new counsellors (3 in each partner country) will be trained for applying the toolkit materials.

A testing phase will be conducted starting March 2021. In this phase 100 disadvantaged young adults will profit from a counselling with the CORE-Toolkit.
